The Royal Proclamation of 1763 is issued by King George III following the Treaty of Paris, forbidding any settlements west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Access to western lands was one of the first significant areas of dispute between Britain and the colonies, becoming a contributing factor of the American Revolution.
