In March 1776, as John Adams helped shape a new nation, Abigail Adams wrote from Braintree urging him to “remember the ladies” when forming the laws of the new republic. She warned that women would not be bound by laws in which they had no voice and called for greater legal protections and independence for women. Though her plea was not enacted, the letter stands as one of the earliest and most striking calls for women’s rights in American history, highlighting the unfinished promise of liberty at the nation’s founding.

Our custom design features Abigail's actual handwriting set within a feather quill graphic.
