On march 5, 1770, British soldiers from the 29th regiment garrisoned in Boston opened fire on a crowd of colonists, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. The American press framed the tragedy as the Boston massacre and it fueled growing anti-British sentiments in the American colonies.

Paul revere's famous engraving of the incident, titled "the bloody massacre perpetrated in king street," played a crucial role in shaping public opinion. It depicted British soldiers as the aggressors and colonists as innocent victims, effectively portraying the incident as an act of British oppression. The print was widely circulated, generating outrage and mobilizing support for the revolutionary cause.

This design is inspired by revere’s print and shows the feet of the British soldiers appearing below billowing plumes of musket smoke. It includes reproduction 18th-century woolen broadcloth, sterling silver posts, and a walnut veneer backing.
