While the identity of "Agent 355" is unconfirmed to this day, many believe she was none other than Anna Strong, a member of General Washington's Culper Spy Ring, who played a crucial role in the spy network's operations. She used a clever signaling system to aid communication – specifically, she would hang a white sheet on her clothesline at her home in Setauket, New York. The placement of the sheet, along with additional black petticoats, would convey different messages, such as the presence and location of a boat to transfer messages across Long Island Sound, thereby helping to ensure the safe and discreet transfer of intelligence.
