These Paul revere lantern earrings will light up any occasion!
On the night of April 18, 1775, two lanterns hung in the steeple of Boston's old north church. Across the harbor Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott waited to alarm the countryside. The number of lanterns was a pre-arranged signal that indicated whether the redcoats marched “by land” out of Boston, or rowed across the Charles River “by sea” to Cambridge and on to Concord.
Spotting two lanterns, the riders set off with the news that the regulars were on the move, and also to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams, who were staying in their path. Henry Longfellow immortalized the ride in his 1860 verse. The lanterns, and the phrase, are now an iconic part of the American experience, on the dramatic path to revolution.
These earrings are inspired by the lanterns that still exist today and are made from etched acrylic. The ear wires are made with niobium, one of the most hypoallergenic materials available.
