Adopted in 1774, the Taunton Flag of the town of Taunton, Massachusetts, with the famous "Liberty and Union" text, was originally designed to show unity alongside the British Crown with its Union Jack ensign. Later, the Taunton flag was one of the first flags used within the thirteen colonies to express dissension against British rule.
