An early morning encounter between Patriot militia and the British Army on Lexington Green sparked the opening salvo to the American Revolutionary War. Fighting would resume later that day at a standoff at North Bridge in Concord. To this day, there is no way of knowing who fired first. A shot rang out, leading to an extended engagement along Battle Road, ultimately culminating in heavy casualties for British forces as they retreated back to occupied Boston.
