After several days of taking heavy casualties, British General Cornwallis surrenders his Army to George Washington. Later, it is said that the British band played the tune “The World’s Turned Upside Down” during the surrender. The world truly changes that day in a field outside of Yorktown, VA as America secures her independence. It isn’t until the Treaty of Paris is signed nearly 2 years later on September 3, 1783 that England officially recognizes America as an independent nation.
